The company was founded by Hans and Inge Luhn on Düsseldorfer Straße in Ratingen in 1968. They specialized in the production of turned parts using conventional machines and cam-controlled automatics. They developed a process for manufacturing test error grooves. In 1970, the construction of the new company building in Ratingen Homberg began, and two years later, the company moved into it. With the move to the new company building, the first CNC-controlled two-axis lathe was purchased in 1980.

In 1989, the founder, Hans Luhn, passed away, and the company was taken over by his daughter, Monika Luhn. Monika Luhn, now the managing director, renamed the sole proprietorship from Hans Luhn Precision Turning Technology to Luhn Drehtechnik GmbH in 1990 and continued to run it until 2010. Due to the increasing demands of quality management from many customers and the efforts to outsource some of the in-house tasks, the production of test errors in all possible forms and the associated turning and milling work at our company increased. This development continues to this day.
